about
FREETURNALS:|freeturnuhls| noun Fraternal twin brothers who also happen to be night owls (nocturnal)... get it?
It all began in a small basement room with out-of-tune guitars and loud amplifiers when we were just eight years old, attempting to embody some variation of The Beatles. As our teenage years unfolded, punk rock influenced us in our creative endeavors and propelled us into live performances. Over the years, as the music progressed between us into different styles, we played together in several bands, one of which became popular in the Twin Cities (Small Town Anthem). We garnered radio airplay across the Midwest, performed at numerous great venues, and shared the stage with touring acts locally and nationally.
Never losing sight of our roots, when the band dissolved we knew it was time to branch off and create something entirely our own. The result was The Freeturnals, a band that combines everything we grew up loving about music with just the two of us. Creating the essence of the musical and spiritual connection that exists between twin brothers. In 2022 we released our debut EP, Night Owl, with a full length set to release in July 2024. Local music critic Jerry Wilson had this to say about our single Harmony, "The debut single from the Minnesota indie group is charming and instantly memorable folk rock."
Sometimes it's loud, sometimes it's soft. It’s natural, and it’s in the moment. It’s The Freeturnals.
